9th Annual Under 15 Boys Tournament Starts On Wednesday
The 9th Annual Hurricanes Under 15 Boys Rugby Tournament will be held from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th September 2019 during Secondary School Winter Tournament Week. Organised by CollegeSport Wellington and St Patrick’s College Silverstream on behalf of the Hurricanes Youth Rugby Council, the Upper Hutt region is delighted to be hosting the Tournament.
Sixteen teams from Auckland, Taranaki, Canterbury, Manawatu, Dunedin, as well as local Wellington schools will play each other in a Tournament format over four days. The Participating Teams in 2019 (with last year’s position shown in brackets) are: Kelston BHS (1); St Patrick’s College Silverstream (2); St Peter’s Auckland (3); Gisborne BHS (4); St Bernard’s College (10); Taita College; Manukura (9); Francis Douglas College (6); Rongotai College (11); Feilding HS (12); John McGlashan College (13); Aotea College (14); Nga Kura o Ngāti Porou; St Thomas of Canterbury College; Wainuiomata HS (16); Rosmini College.
Current Super Rugby and All Blacks (Asafo Aumua, Jordie Barrett) have played in this Tournament, which aims to provide a positive rugby experiences for secondary school age boys. Previous Winners of the Tournament are: 2011 Silverstream; 2012 Tu Toa; 2013 Tu Toa; 2014 Silverstream; 2015 Silverstream; 2016 Westlake; BHS; 2017 Silverstream; 2018 Kelston BHS.
Also this week, the Hurricanes Under 14 Festival takes place in Wellington, where 11 teams will play each other over three days at the Wakefield Park Artificial Turf, in Berhampore.

The aim of the Festival is not high-performance, but rather to try to engage students under 14 years of age with the game of rugby. It is hoped that students within school that haven’t had a chance to play Rugby Union during the year, get an opportunity to play.
