Both Under 18 Boys Titles To Be Decided Next Weekend
In Division A, Wellington’s Under 18 Centurions side has one hand on the Trustbank Secondary School Shield for 2024, with a come from behind win over Hawkes Bay by 30 points to 27 at Lyndhurst Park in Tawa, after trailing 13 to 15 at half-time. However, the Centurions will need to beat defending champions Wellington Samoa next weekend to win the trophy, while Hawkes Bay will win the Shield if they defeat Poverty Bay and the Centurions lose without scoring two bonus points.
Wellington Samoa had a rollicking 50-point win over Poverty Bay in today’s other Division A match and could also successfully the Shield (which they won in 2022) if they defeat the Centurions and should Hawkes Bay stumble against Poverty Bay.
In Division B, it will be a top of the table shoot-out at when the two unbeaten sides, Wairarapa Bush and Wellington Maori play for the inaugural Gordon Noble-Campbell Cup next weekend. Wellington Maori scored a dominant 50 point victory over Horowhenua-Kapiti at Playford Park in Levin, while Wairarapa Bush secured a win against Whanganui by 36 points to 19.
In today's other representative fixture, the Hurricanes Heartland Under 20 side experienced heartbreak in Taupo, deep in injury-time in the last play of the game, losing the Glen Osborne Cup to a Chiefs Under 20 selection by 25 points to 29. More match details to follow.
