Four On Top Points After Round One In U18 Boys Competition
Centurions RFC, Hawke Bay Saracens, Wellington Maori and Wellington Samoa all scored maximum points in Round 1 of the 2022 Trustbank Central Secondary School Shield competition earlier today, (although Wellington Samoa’s points came from an unexpected default by Horowhenua-Kapiti RFU).
The closest match of the day was between geographic neighbours Poverty Bay and Hawkes Bay, with the visitors to Rugby Park in Gisborne winning the match by 24 points to 21. Defending champions, Whanganui RFU were beaten by Wellington Maori 24-12, while Centurions RFC had a solid victory against Wairarapa-Bush RFU, 27 points to 0.
In the U19 Central Region Shield, the defending champions (Wellington RFU) were in imperious form against the Hurricanes Heartland Under 20 side, winning their match by 54 points to 3. Wellington are now firm favourites to retain the Shield, noting that Manawatu RFU (who they play next week) were defeated today by Hawkes Bay RFU by 38 points to 0.
