Hurricanes "Life Members Cup" Entries Now Open
The Council invites eligible secondary schools within the Hurricanes region to enter a one-off competition arising from the COVID-19 crisis, for the "Hurricanes Life Members Cup".
Each member Provincial Union is responsible for determining it's team to compete in this 2020 knock-out competition for boys, with four "Wild-Card" entries to be selected by the Council's Operations Committee, from entries received by Provincial Unions.
The "Hurricanes Life Members Cup" celebrates the important role that boys' secondary school rugby plays in encouraging community participation by school-leavers across the many Clubs comprising the Hurricanes region. The intent of the Cup is to promote rugby within our Heartland and non-traditional rugby schools. Provincial Unions when selecting their representative should be mindful of this intent.
By Thursday 30 July, Provincial Unions will need to confirm their nomination and advise their wish to have a Wild-Card entry. On Friday 31st July, the Competition Draw will be confirmed and circulated.
First round matches are expected to be played by Thursday, 13 August (teams should be available to play on the 5th and/or 12th August). Where possible another mid-week date between the 5th and 12th may be negotiated. The second round of matches (6 teams remaining) will be drawn on the 14th of August, with fixtures to be played by Thursday, 27 August, (end of week 6).
Semi-Finals will consist of the three winners and the best-losing team. These games are set for Wednesday, 2 September (Week 7). The Grand Final will be played on Wednesday, 9 September or on an alternative date agreed by the two Finalists.
Team Eligibility: Please note that teams should be a school's normal Saturday team. All players must be registered and teams must adhere to the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Rugby Union age-band policies.
