Magpies And Weka In Prime Position After Round 2
One of the finalists in Division B of the 2024 Under 16 Tournament has been found after two rounds of competition, while another has one foot in the door. Hawkes Bay (Division A) and Poverty Bay (Division B) have both gained maximum competition points in their two opening games, with Poverty Bay already securing a finals berth.
Today, Hawkes Bay despatched Wellington Gold in clinical fashion by 50 points to 14, after leading 19 points to 14 at half-time. Poverty Bay trailed Wairarapa Bush by two points at half-time, (13 to 15), before a strong second half saw them win by 42 points to 35.
In the other Division A match, Manawatu led Wellington Black by 24 points to 17 at half-time, going on to take the match by 42 points to 34 scoring five tries in the process. The other matches in Division B saw East Coast defeat Horowhenua Kapiti and Hawkes Bay Development defeat Whanganui.
Round 3 matches get underway at 11.00am tomorrow at Playford Park in Levin. In Division A, the top two teams to compete for the Don Broughton Shield could be any of three teams in contention, while in Division B any one of four teams could join Poverty Bay in the Saracens Cup Final.
