Wellington Under 19 Defend Hurricanes Title At Palmerston North
The Wellington Under 19 Team successfully defended the Central Region Shield against a determined Manawatu side at the CET Arena in Palmerston North on Saturday afternoon.
The first-half of the match was an even affair, with the first two converted tries scored by Wellington's Lester Maulolo and Manawatu's Liam Galpin, respectively.
Playing into the stiff southerly in the first-half, Wellington scored two further tries before the break to take a 19 points to 10 lead.

The second-half was interesting in so far as Manawatu dominated territory for the first 20 minutes, with a break-out try (the second for Wellington's Maulolo) effectively turning the tide of the match.
From there, Wellington scored three further tries to secure the Shield with a 38 points to 13 victory. Wellington will now face Otago in their first match of the National Under 19 Tournament, while Manawatu will take on Canterbury in their first match in Taupo.

The Central Region Shield has been played for a total of 33 times since 1984. Hawkes Bay have won the Shield 15 times, Wellington 13 times, Taranaki 3 times and Manawatu twice.
