2025 Under 18 Boys Championship Titles Decided In Napier & Levin
The Centurions RFC (Wellington RFU) and Wairarapa Bush RFU are the winners of their respective divisions of the 2025 Under 18 Competition, with both sides ending the short campaign of three matches, with three victories.
In Division A, in Napier at Tremain Field, a tense first half saw both teams score one converted try a-piece, with the half-time score 7 points all. The intense arm-wrestle continued through the second spell with the final score of 21 points to 19 reflecting a solitary missed conversion by hosts Hawkes Bay, with the Centurions winning the John Hornal Shield.
In the other Division A match played in Gisborne, Wellington Samoa RFU gained their first victory of the 2025 season, defeating Poverty Bay by 34 points to 17.

In Levin, Wairarapa-Bush were always ahead but it wasn't until late in the game that their victory was assured, after Horowhenua-Kapiti reeled in a 26-7 deficit with two consecutive tries to trail 26-19 midway through the second half. Earlier, the visitors' forwards sought early momentum and were rewarded with the first try in the opening minutes. Unfortunately, they also lost lock and captain Eddie Weatherstone to injury during the scoring of this try.

Horowhenua-Kapiti hit back to score with their first foray into the attacking zone and briefly led 7-5. Wairarapa-Bush dominated territory and possession throughout the remainder of the first half, scoring two more tries including one to hard-running No. 8 Jone Ralulu, and being held up on at least one other occasion, to go up 19-7 by halftime.
The green machine made the perfect start to the second half with tighthead prop Rupeni Koroi scoring from close range for their bonus point try and a 26-7 lead. The home side embarked on a two-try comeback, but Wairarapa-Bush could see the trophy glinting in the sunshine on the sideline and rallied late to seal victory.

In the other Division B match played in Whanganui, the hosts (who had a chance of winning the Cup, had Horowhenua Kapiti been able to defeat Wairarapa Bush), prevailed over the Wellington Maori RFU side by the narrow margin of 29 points to 21 in a titanic match at Cooks Garden.
