Wellington Wins 23rd Under 19 Title In 43rd Competition
Wellington completed a clean sweep of the 2025 Central Region Shield competition in Upper Hutt this afternoon, winning their match against the Hurricanes Heartland Under 20 team by 49 points to 5, after taking a 22 points to nil half-time lead.

In the other match to decide runner-up, Hawkes Bay earned a comprehensive 62 points to 7 victory against winless Manawatu in Napier, leading 26 points to nil at the half-time break.
Since 1983, Hawkes Bay have now won the Shield 15 times, Taranaki 3 times, and Manawatu twice.

In the first round of the 2025 Under 18 competition for the John Hornal Shield, Hawkes Bay (Saracens) (109) and Wellington (Centurions) (30) registered wins against Poverty Bay (5) and Wellington Samoa (5) respectively, while in the Gordon Noble-Campbell Cup, Whanganui (46) and Wairarapa Bush (33) were victorious against Horowhenua Kapiti (19) and Wellington Maori (5) respectively.
