Winter Tournament Week Ends Successfully For Regional Teams

With the conclusion of the National Top 4 play-offs in Palmerston North earlier today, the secondary school season comes to a close, with further success for Manawatu’s Manukura who defeated Hamilton Girls’ High School by 48 points to 38, to win the national Girls’ title.

In the Boys’ division, St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream ended in fourth place, following defeat at the hands of Westlake Boys’ High School, by 52 to 42, following a superb season which resulted with an inaugural appearance at the national play-offs.

The Council would like to thank Nick Reid, for all of his work in organising all elements of the Top 4 play-offs, which requires an immense effort.

In the Hurricanes Boys’ Under 15 Tournament played in the Hutt Valley, Scots College was the best of the participating regional teams in the Division 1 competition, finishing in 5th place overall, while in the Division 2 competition, Manukura drew with Stratford High School 24 points all.

In the Hurricanes Girls’ Under 15 Tournament played in Levin earlier in the week, Manukura defeated St. Mary’s College by 35 points to 12 to retain the Kathy Grey Cup. Feilding High School finished the Tournament in third place.

The Council would similarly like to acknowledge David Fa’atafa and Aleni Feagaiga for their organisational and management skills in delivering two successful events for the Under 15 players in our region.
