Last year’s Whanganui Under 18 squad became the first side from the union to lift the Trustbank Central Shield as Hurricanes Under 18 champions, with many of the players from that side now featuring in the Under 20 side for their province.
The match in Whanganui kicks-off at 12.30pm as the curtain-raiser to the Whanganui Heartland’s team pre-season fixture against Taranaki, with Manawatu RRA’s Jacob Booth in charge of the fixture.
Meanwhile, at Napier’s Tremain Field, Poverty Bay RFU will meet Wairarapa-Bush RFU, (who last won the Hurricanes Cup in 2019). The Poverty Bay team is coached by Wayne Ensor and James Warren, with Mark Naden and Brendon Hart providing managerial support. This fixture will be refereed by Ben Holt from the Poverty Bay RRA and promises to be a close encounter.
All four teams meet in Palmerston North on the weekend of 6 and 7 August for rounds 2 and 3 of the Series, following which the Hurricanes Heartland Under 20 side for 2022 will be named.
