Tournament Hosts Feature In Both Under 16 Finals
Both the Hawkes Bay A and Hawkes Bay Development teams will feature in this year’s finals for the Don Broughton Shield (Division A) and Saracens Cup (Division B) matches at the annual Hurricanes Under 16 Tournament, first held in 1972.
Hawkes Bay A who lost to Wellington Gold by two points in their Tournament round-robin match 15-17 will look to reverse that result, with their final pool game against Wellington Black played today and won by Hawkes Bay by 26 points to 14, signalling their intent.
In Division B. Poverty Bay will defend their 2022 title against the Hawkes Bay Development side, having defeated Horowhenua Kapiti and Whanganui in pool play. To make the final, Hawkes Bay Development had two victories against Wairarapa Bush and Ngati Porou East Coast.
In the consolation finals, in Division A, defending champions Manawatu will play Wellington Black for third place, while in Division B the third place decider will be played between Whanganui and Wairarapa Bush. The final consolation final for fifth place in Division B will be played between Horowhenua Kapiti and Ngati Porou East Coast.
All finals will be played at the Mitre 10 Park in Hastings.
